We make sure cruisers are fully prepared for their cruise vacation with tips on ships and ports.Millions of travelers rely on Cruise Hive in the United States, Europe, Australia, and around the world. Disney Magic boasts three main dining rooms, plus a selection of other, smaller, free dining options. As you might expect, each Disney Magic restaurant fully embraces a theme and an experience, just like you would find in a restaurant at any Disney park.

Disney Magic Spas and Salons

You can still use your Key to the World card to make purchases and access your room. The salon portion provides haircuts and styling treatments for women, a barber shop that offers haircuts and hot shaves for men, an area for manicures and pedicures, and a "Smile Spa" for teeth whitening. There's also a Chill Spa reserved for teens 13 to 17 years, with a simplified menu of massages, facials, hair care and tanning treatments, as well as special mother/daughter and father/son massages. The Rainforest Room on Disney Magic offers one-day and cruise-long passes. If you have a treatment at the spa, you can use the room at any time during that day at no additional charge. The Buena Vista Theatre is adjacent to the kids' clubs, on Deck 5 midship.

Disney Magic Entertainment and Activities

Below we list each of the main meal periods onboard the ship, and your best options for each. An undersea-themed lounge that combines cocktails with live entertainment, such as comedy, music, karaoke, and interactive game shows. You’re invited to a special celebration for Rapunzel in the kingdom of Corona! Thanks to a little Disney magic, your night at the restaurant just happens to fall during the celebration of Rapunzel’s birthday and the anniversary of her return to the kingdom. A true royal feast unfolds… stuffed ravioli, ahi tuna tartare, smoked salmon, lemon & thyme roast chicken, prime rib, and the pun-definitely-intended angel hair pasta with sea scallops.

The size of Disney Magic

If you’ve been on a Disney Cruise before with kids, you are probably familiar with the Disney Oceaneer bands that are provided to kids entering the kids’ clubs. These bands are similar to the MagicBand+ but don’t have all of the features. The Disney Oceaneer band is given to guests at no cost but must be returned at the end of your sailing or you’ll be charged a fee for them. Just like all of Disney Cruise Line’s ships, the Disney Magic comes with a variety of different dining options. Whether you are looking for a full meal, a character dining experience, or just a quick bite to eat, you’ll find it on board the ship. In total, there are 875 staterooms on the Disney Magic, about two-thirds of what you’ll find on the newest ship, the Disney Wish.

At the main pool area, you’ll find FunnelVision TV, which offers movies and shows throughout the day. The Disney Magic also offers the Cove area of the ship, where you will find the Cove Cafe, as well as an adult-only pool (the quiet Cove pool). When my kids are in the kids’ clubs, I always enjoy grabbing a book and reading in the quiet area.

What It’s Like to Live on a Cruise Ship for 6 Months

The one on Disney Magic starts in black and white, but the room and the wait staff gain colorful adornments throughout the course of the meal. A special guest makes an appearance during the grand finale, which is when things really transform into full color, accompanied with exciting music and special effects. Otherwise, it's just a large restaurant that gives off major art deco vibes.

The line's shore excursions offer a variety of experiences, many of which include a family-friendly option with activities geared toward kids and an adults-only choice. Bahamas and Caribbean itineraries include visits to Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, with areas especially designated for families, teens and adults. At night, Goofy's Pool area hosts movies and deck parties, including the line's much-loved "Pirates of the Caribbean Party" -- complete with a character music and dance party, and fireworks show (weather permitting).

How Big is the Disney Magic?

However, adults traveling without children may find that other cruise lines are a better fit for their needs, with more upscale dining options, bars and adult-friendly activities. Rotational Dining means that guests have the chance to enjoy dinner at ALL THREE of the ships main dining rooms, each with their own theme and specialty menus on select nights. The best part is that, as you move to a different restaurant each evening, so do your servers! They “rotate” right along with you so they can get to know your group’s dining preferences. Each night of your cruise, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a live show in the beautiful Walt Disney Theatre. This includes at least three Broadway-style shows during your cruise, along with other additions (such as family-friendly comedians, magicians, and hypnotists) on longer voyages.

Shows on Disney Magic

My wife and I prefer smaller ships such as the Magic for this very reason — it’s great to know that we can get pretty much anywhere onboard with a 5-10 minute walk and not be exhausted when we get there. The Disney Magic is a sister ship to the Disney Wonder, meaning the two are relatively equal in terms of construction (though similar areas on each ship are themed differently from one another). They’re the smallest ships in the fleet, easily outsized by other Disney ships.

Dinner menu items include butternut agnolotti, seared sea scallops, dover sole expertly fileted at your tableside, tiramisù, and their signature chocolate soufflé. On sea days, a tremendously-popular brunch service is typically offered. Outside of dinner service, Lumiere’s is also an option for breakfast and lunch on most days; you’ll find a more-Americanized menu during those meal periods.

Disney Magic was designed with families in mind, so it's no surprise that most of the programs onboard tend to appeal to all age groups. For an even more intimate experience, Spa Villas (Mediterranean-inspired suites with verandas) are ideal for couple's massages and extensive individual services. The Personal Navigator will indicate which specials are offered; port days usually have the best deals. White Caps has a variety of logo apparel, jewelry and watches, while Sea Treasures offers duty-free perfumes and liquor.

Instead, they go by the name “concierge staterooms.” Still, they have a separate bedroom, so they’re suites. While this cruise ship may be the very first of its kind, it hasn’t lost its luster since its debut more than two decades ago. On select 7+ night cruises, you can eat breakfast with Disney and Disney Junior Characters. They go from table to table, posing for photos, giving high fives, and saying hi.

Theater productions are held twice a night, so parents can choose to attend before or after dinner, depending on their kids' bedtimes. Other Disney Magic activities such as trivia, bingo, crafts and themed family competitions also are held in various lounges, throughout the day and at night. Enrichment activities vary by itinerary, but might include regional wine tastings, a pastry-making or dinner party-planning class and an educational seminar on the history of ocean travel, hosted by bridge officers. The ship was built by Fincantieri in Italy, simultaneously with sister ship Disney Wonder. The ship’s construction was delayed slightly, as was the later maiden voyage, but the ship finally launched in 1998.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (for those who prefer to skip their rotational dining or are late to their Main Dining seating). So much variety here, they serve snacks, appetizers, desserts and entrees of every kind. Various selections will change from meal to meal, while others are constant fixtures on the menu.

Throughout 2016 summer, the ship operated in the Western Mediterranean (leaving from Barcelona). The new production show "An Encanto Celebration" allows guests to engage in music, crafts, and storytelling alongside La Familia Madrigal (family from the Encanto movie). The experience includes meeting and taking photos with Mirabel and Bruno, a sing-along of Encanto songs, creating movie-inspired butterflies and flower crafts. During the show, guests can also enjoy a selection of Colombian beers, cocktails, sodas, film-inspired mocktails. While the kids enjoy the fairy godmother-esque magic there, the adults enjoy the Senses Spa and Salon, an adults-only space. There are steam rooms, couples treatments, standard spa treatments, salon services and all the rest.
